Exploring the Meaning

This Sunday, 12th October, and next, 19th October, our sermons will focus on the rich and timeless practice of Holy Communion.

Together, we will explore its origins in the early church and reflect on its dual nature - both an act of remembrance and a living sacrament, echoing St Augustine's words: "an outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace."

This week, we will consider communion as a way to remember Christ's love and sacrifice. Next week, we will look at how it unites us as one body in Christ, and explore the growing practice of welcoming baptised children to the table before confirmation.

Join us for this journey of reflection and discovery - and be part of the conversation across these two Sundays.

In our Thoughts

Please remember in your thoughts the family and friends of Clare 'Wardy' Winters.  A service of Thanksgiving will take place at St Mary's on Friday 7th November.  More details to be shared closer to the time.

Remembering Together

Each year we gather for a special service to remember those we have loved and lost. During the service, we will read aloud the names of loved ones, a simple but profound act of remembrance, and light a candle. If you would like the name(s) of someone special to be included in this year's dedications, please discover more

Faithful Heroes

On Sunday 26th October, our All Age Holy Communion Service will celebrate the Saints - our faithful heroes from the Bible. Together, we'll explore how the courage and faith of these biblical heroes can inspire us all today, making this a service for the whole family to enjoy and reflect upon.  Children of primary school age can join Fun & Faith during the service, for stories and activities that bring these inspiring lives to life.

The Lord's Prayer - For those who couldn’t make it to the Henley Literary Festival last Sunday, Archbishop Stephen Cottrell gave a thought-provoking talk on The Lord’s Prayer - exploring what it really means to pray and to listen for what God wants to say to us. He reminded us that prayer isn’t about asking for more, but about finding what is enough and sharing that love with others.  Terry Grourk has written a short reflection on the Archbishop’s talk which you can read here.

REinspired - Can you help? - St Mary's has partnered with the Robert Piggott Schools to deliver REinspired sessions, bringing the Christian faith to life for pupils through fun, engaging activities. We already have a few volunteers, but we urgently need one or two more people to help with small groups during the four planned sessions this year (17th Oct, 20th Mar, 8th May & 3rd Jul). The role is simple, rewarding, and full training is provided. Could you help? Please email Andy.

Ambles with Bob - Please join us on Friday 10th October meeting at 10am at the kissing gate.

Butterflies - Will be meeting on Wednesday 15th October at 9.30am in the Centre.
