This week we are launching a new five-week series this October exploring the future direction of church life across the Parish of Wargrave with Knowl Hill.
Entitled Living Our Calling: A Vision for Our Future, the series follows a period of prayer, listening and discussion by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) about how the Parish can continue to grow its life, service and involvement within the wider community.
Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd – the one who knows his sheep, cares for them and gathers them together. Before thinking about how we care for others, we begin by remembering the care we ourselves receive from Christ.
This Sunday we'll explore our vision for pastoral life and how caring for one another isn't simply the responsibility of clergy or a pastoral team – it is something in which every one of us can play a part.

BEREAVEMENT SERVICE
Each year we gather for a special service to remember those we have loved and lost, and this year’s Annual Bereavement Service will take place on Sunday 1st November at 3pm.
During the service, we read aloud the names of loved ones, a simple but profound act of remembrance. Many people find it very meaningful to hear a name spoken in the stillness of the church, and to see a candle lit as a sign of continuing light in the midst of loss. If you would like the name of someone special to be included in this year’s dedications, please do let us know by Friday 23rd October.

NEW SERMON SERIES
What kind of church are we called to be – and how can each of us play our part?
Over five weeks this autumn, we’ll be exploring Living Our Calling: A Vision for Our Future, a new series looking at the direction we believe God is calling us to take together as a Parish.
Following a time of prayer, listening and discernment, the PCC has identified five core areas that will help shape our future: Pastoral Care; Welcome & Belonging; Children, Youth & Families; Mission Support; and Worship & Service Development. Each week we’ll explore the biblical foundations for one of these areas, hear more about the vision for it and begin to discover what it could mean in practice.
Most importantly, this isn’t simply about plans, programmes or the work of a few people. It is an invitation for all of us to consider how we can pray, participate and play our part.
Join us as we look ahead, listen to God and discover the part we can each play in the future life, witness and service of our Parish.
FAMILY ACTIVITY MORNING
Come down to St Mary’s Church Centre on Thursday 29th October from 10.00am to 12.00pm for some Half Term leafy fun! The Autumn theme Family Activity Morning will offer a range of colourful, hands-on activities for children and their families to enjoy together – and everything is completely free. Just book your place and join us!

The 2026 Annual Concert
In November, the Wargrave Annual Concert returns for what has become one of the musical highlights of the village year. And with another sell-out expected, the message is simple - BUY YOUR TICKETS EARLY!
Be first in line for tickets - join us at the Church Centre on Saturday 10th October, 9:00am - 10:30am, when tickets will be available to buy in person. After Ticket Day, all remaining tickets will be available by email through our ticket office.

Volunteer Cleaners Needed
We would love to welcome some new volunteers to our church cleaning team. The team works on a rota, with volunteers usually helping once a month on a Friday at 9:00am. It’s a small commitment of time, but one that makes a real difference in keeping St Mary’s clean, welcoming and ready for everyone.
If you could lend a hand – whether you’re an experienced cleaner or simply happy to help – we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please email Mark Puddy.
Need Prayer?
We see prayer as essential and a privilege and we want to be able to pray for anyone that may need prayer. There is no judgement on how big or small the prayer request is and as followers of Christ, we are free to come to him and have confidence that Jesus hears and welcomes our prayers.
If you or someone you know needs prayer, send us your prayer. The request will be sent to a group of prayerful people who will pray for you or the person in need. As a group they will only know the information you ask to be forwarded to them, and they will hold this request in confidence. The request will only be shared with the small group of people in the prayer group.
