The Woodclyffe Almshouses
In 1902 Wargrave’s local benefactress Harriette Smith founded the Woodclyffe Almshouse which consists of 8 self-contained flats in secluded wooded gardens in Wargrave. The residents enjoy peaceful, comfortable homes in a community setting.
The Almshouse is maintained by the Woodclyffe Almshouse Trust, a charity of local volunteers of which the vicar, David Chislett, is chairman.
For anyone interested in applying for a flat should a vacancy arise, the criteria include:
either living in the parish for over 10 years or with family links to Wargrave
generally being over 60
being a member of the Church of England.
The trustees can be flexible however and it is certainly worth requesting an application form.
