Weekly Notices
Thursday 10th July 2025
As the school year begins to wind down, and with a summer heatwave on the horizon, many of us are juggling end-of-term busyness with the hope of some well-earned rest. In the midst of everything happening in the wider world - often challenging and heavy - it's good to pause and give thanks for moments of hope and joy. One such moment was Lucy's ordination last weekend, a truly uplifting service that celebrated her calling and the beginning of her new ministry. Please continue to keep Lucy in your prayers as she begins this next chapter.

An opportunity for ALL THE FAMILY to meet David and find out about the family-friendly groups and clubs available at St Mary's whilst enjoying fun activities and delicious snacks including a giant fruit rainbow and donuts!
There will be a variety of activities for all ages including arts and crafts, a chill zone, cookie decorating, glitter tattoos and more. It's a chance to relax before another busy week and the start of the school term, meet other families and children, and have fun. We've got tea-time covered with a range of nutritious snacks and delicious treats for everyone.
St Mary's is the church at the heart of our village where there is a warm welcome for families and a supportive community. We are dedicated to creating a fun, engaging and nurturing place for children and young people to grow in faith and build friendships, so 'Come & See' on September 7th.
EVERYONE is welcome and it would be helpful for catering purposes, and to know dietary needs. Please RSVP by 31st July.
Join us for the annual BBQ at The Sutcliffes' – a much-loved gathering hosted by Sean and Liz at their home in the village. It's a wonderful opportunity to relax, catch up, and enjoy good food together. All are warmly welcome! The main course of burgers/sausages will be provided, and they would be grateful if you could bring along a salad or dessert to share. Please RSVP by 18th July - Click the image
Join us for two fabulous open-air performances by the Pantaloons this summer! First up is Hamlet on Saturday 26th July at 7pm in the field at Knowl Hill Grange – expect live music, audience interaction, comic twists, and a fast-paced, fun take on Shakespeare's classic tragedy. Adult - £15, Children under 16 years - £9. Then on Thursday 15th August at 7pm, gather on Mill Green for their hilarious and action-packed Robin Hood. Bring a picnic, something to sit on, and enjoy an evening of theatrical delight under the sky! Adults - £15, Children under 16 years - £9. Click the image to book tickets.
There will be a mix of genres and styles to suit all ages and make for a highly entertaining evening. Included in the running will be the all-male Thames Valley Chorus performing modern and classic songs in their joyful barbershop style of four-part harmony. We also have the Occasion Singers who were formed in 2009 by Jacqui Voller and who have performed, amongst other places, at Cliveden, Westminster Hall, Hampton Court and Reading Minster. For our event they will have a quartet from the group performing a selection of choral numbers. In addition there will be some talented local musicians who are showing promise in their current studies and relish the chance to perform for a live audience. Tickets are £10 each (Children under 16 years are free). To book tickets, click on the image.
We are looking forward to welcoming Revd David Chislett at his Licensing Service on Tuesday 26th August 2025. This special service, led by the Bishop of Reading, will formally mark the beginning of David's ministry in our parish. During the service, David will take his vows and be officially licensed as our new vicar. Representatives from across the church and wider community will offer words of welcome, and there will be hymns, prayers, and a sermon from the Bishop. It promises to be a joyful and significant occasion in the life of our Parish, and all are warmly invited to attend. There will be a short reception afterwards.
Our church team has participated in Ride+Stride for many years, and, thanks to your sponsorship has raised thousands of pounds to support Berkshire Historic Churches Trust and our own Parish churches. This year we are hoping to field three teams: Cycling Walking (Easier Route) Walking (Challenging Route) The cycling will be around 11 miles lead by Katie Cosnett. The easier walking route will be a team visiting churches in central Reading led by Christine Walker. The third and more challenging route, led by Ruth Howse will be a countryside walk down the Lambourn Valley. All will visit as many churches as possible between 10am - 6pm on the day but we need more participants to make this feasible. If you are interested in joining us either on foot or on your bike please complete the online form (click image) so that routes can be planned.
