Weekly Notices
Thursday 15th May 2025
This week, we give thanks for the gift of community and the freedom we have to gather in worship. As we mark Christian Aid Week (11th - 17th May) we're reminded of the power of love in action - of how God calls us to "act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly" (Micah 6:8). It's a time to recognise the difference that faith, generosity, and hope can make, both locally and globally.
Here in our parish, we also look ahead to our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) this Sunday. Please note that our 9.45am Morning Worship service at St Mary's will be slightly shorter than usual to allow time for the APCM to follow immediately afterwards. This is an important opportunity to reflect on our shared ministry, give thanks for all that God is doing among us, and look to the future together. You can be in the know in advance by reading the reports here.
Have you also considered becoming a member of the PCC? See below for more details...

Annual Parochial Church Meeting
The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) is a chance for everyone in the Parish to hear about the life of the church over the past year, review finances, and elect representatives to the PCC. It’s an important moment to reflect, give thanks, and look ahead together. All are welcome.
Sunday 18th May | 10.30am after a shortened 9.45am service | St Mary’s Church, Wargrave
Would you like to become a 'Member of the PCC'?
Being a member of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) means playing an active role in the life and governance of the church. The PCC works with the vicar to support the mission and ministry of the parish, helping to shape its vision, oversee finances, care for church buildings, and ensure that decisions are made in line with Christian values. Members meet regularly to pray, discuss, and make decisions about church matters. It's a chance to serve the church community, offer your perspective, and help guide its future.
Anyone who is a regular communicant in our Parish, and has signed up to the new electoral roll, can be proposed to be elected as a member of the PCC. If you are interested in standing for the PCC, please contact Sheila Williams, the secretary of the PCC, as soon as possible.
St Mary's will be hosting a thoughtful and reflective morning, where you can explore how you would like your farewell to be shaped. Join us as we listen to hymns, music, and readings, and learn about the different types of funeral services available. Click the image to RSVP.
Ascension Day celebrates the risen Christ returning to his Father in heaven, 40 days after Easter. It’s a significant moment in the Church calendar, reminding us of Jesus’ promise to be with us always and the hope we have in him. To mark this special day, all are warmly invited to a Holy Communion service at St Mary’s on Thursday 29th May at 11am. Join us as we reflect, give thanks, and worship together.
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension Day and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus. It’s a time of united and heartfelt prayer, both individually and as a church community. Whether through quiet reflection, daily devotions, or gathering with others, everyone is encouraged to take part in whatever way they can. Together, we pray: “Come, Holy Spirit.”
We’re excited to welcome the Wargrave Brownies & Rainbows to St Mary’s this summer for a nature hunt and bell-ringing, as part of Churches Count on Nature, which runs alongside the Great Big Green Week. Everyone is invited to visit the churchyard during this time (or either side of it) to spot and record wildlife – from birds and butterflies to wildflowers and lichens. No expertise is needed – apps like iNaturalist make it easy! Photos are welcome, and ID charts and risk assessments can be provided. Come and explore!
On Sunday 8th June, we celebrate Pentecost, often called the birthday of the Church. Fifty days after Easter, we remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the disciples - filling them with boldness, joy, and a calling to share the Good News. It marks the beginning of the Church's mission to the world, empowered by God's Spirit. To mark this special day, we will gather for a Holy Communion service at 9.45am in St Mary's and 11.15am at St Paul's, giving thanks for the gift of the Spirit and the life of the Church, then and now.
