This Sunday

Sunday 5th October

This Sunday St Mary's is delighted to welcome Kiri Kankhwende from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) as our guest speaker. Kiri will be helping us to understand more about where persecution is most severe around the world today, and how we as a church family can respond. She will be sharing practical ways we can stand in solidarity with those who suffer for their faith – through prayer, financial support and by writing letters or sending 'Christmas' cards to prisoners and political representatives.  Join us as we open our hearts to the needs of our persecuted brothers and sisters, and discover how even small acts can make a big difference.

In our Thoughts

Please remember in your thoughts the family and friends of Clare 'Wardy' Winters.  A service of Thanksgiving will take place at St Mary's on Friday 7th November.  More details to be shared closer to the time.

Remembering Together

Each year we gather for a special service to remember those we have loved and lost. During the service, we will read aloud the names of loved ones, a simple but profound act of remembrance, and light a candle. If you would like the name(s) of someone special to be included in this year's dedications, please discover more

Exploring the Meaning

On Sunday 12th and Sunday 19th October, our sermons will focus on Holy Communion.

Together we will be looking at the origin and early church practice and consider the extent to which it is both an act of remembrance and a sacrament. St Augustine described a sacrament as 'an outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace'.
We will be looking to at the role of communion in bringing us together as one body in Christ as well as considering the growing practice of admitting baptised children to communion ahead of confirmation.

In other news

The Lord's Prayer - For those who couldn’t make it to the Henley Literary Festival last Sunday, Archbishop Stephen Cottrell gave a thought-provoking talk on The Lord’s Prayer - exploring what it really means to pray and to listen for what God wants to say to us. He reminded us that prayer isn’t about asking for more, but about finding what is enough and sharing that love with others.  Terry Grourk has written a short reflection on the Archbishop’s talk which you can read here.

REinspired - Can you help? - St Mary's has partnered with the Robert Piggott Schools to deliver REinspired sessions, bringing the Christian faith to life for pupils through fun, engaging activities. We already have a few volunteers, but we urgently need one or two more people to help with small groups during the four planned sessions this year (17th Oct, 20th Mar, 8th May & 3rd Jul). The role is simple, rewarding, and full training is provided. Could you help? Please email Andy.

Ambles with Bob - Please join us on Friday 3rd October meeting at 10am at the kissing gate.

Butterflies - Will be meeting on Wednesday 15th October at 9.30am in the Centre..
