Church at the Heart of the Community
Welcome to the Parish of Wargrave with Knowl Hill
Our New Vicar!
We are pleased to announce that David Chislett is to become our new vicar. David has been serving his curacy over the last few years at Warfield Church and has been leading the St Michael’s congregation during a vacancy over the last twelve months. David will be joining us later in the year and we are so grateful for all the prayers that have supported our parish during this time of discernment. We give thanks to God for His guidance and wisdom throughout the process. Please continue to hold David and our church family in prayer as we step into this new chapter.

Support in Prayer
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Thy Kingdom Come (TKC), a milestone that celebrates a decade of faithful prayer and spiritual growth. Each year, Christians of all ages and backgrounds set aside these 11 days to pray intentionally for five people they know - friends, family members, neighbours, or colleagues - to encounter the love and truth of Jesus. It's a deeply personal commitment, and yet one that binds believers together across continents, languages, and traditions.
The heart of TKC is simple: that more people would come to know Jesus. As we pray, we ask God’s Holy Spirit to be at work in the lives of those around us - stirring hearts, opening eyes, and calling people into relationship with Him. It’s a powerful reminder that evangelism begins with prayer, and that every believer has a role to play in sharing God’s love.
Whether you’re able to pray quietly at home, join in with a church group, or simply set aside a moment each day, you are part of something far bigger than yourself. This is a chance to lift our hearts and voices in unity, trusting that God will move through our prayers.
Let’s pray together this Ascension to Pentecost, and ask that God’s kingdom would come - on earth, as it is in heaven.
On Sunday 8th June, we celebrate Pentecost, often called the birthday of the Church. Fifty days after Easter, we remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the disciples - filling them with boldness, joy, and a calling to share the Good News. It marks the beginning of the Church's mission to the world, empowered by God's Spirit. To mark this special day, we will gather for a Holy Communion service at 9.45am in St Mary's and 11.15am at St Paul's, giving thanks for the gift of the Spirit and the life of the Church, then and now.
We’re excited to welcome the Wargrave Brownies & Rainbows to St Mary’s this summer for a nature hunt and bell-ringing, as part of Churches Count on Nature, which runs alongside the Great Big Green Week. Everyone is invited to visit the churchyard during this time (or either side of it) to spot and record wildlife – from birds and butterflies to wildflowers and lichens. No expertise is needed – apps like iNaturalist make it easy! Photos are welcome, and ID charts and risk assessments can be provided. Come and explore!
This Father's Day, we take a moment to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of fatherhood - in all its forms. We give thanks for the fathers and father-figures in our lives: for those who guide, encourage, protect, and support. We remember too that fatherhood can be joyful, complex, and sometimes painful - and we hold space for all those for whom this day carries mixed emotions. Above all, we give thanks for the Fatherhood of God - the one who is constant, compassionate, and close. Whether or not we've known that kind of love in our earthly families, we are reminded that in God, we are always deeply known and deeply loved. St Mary's at 9.45am | St Peter's at 11.15am
We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the next CAMEO (Come And Meet Each Other) session, which will take place on Thursday 19th June at 2.30pm at Knowl Hill Village Hall. This month, we’re adding a fun twist to our usual afternoon gathering with a Spelling Bee! Whether you’re a seasoned wordsmith or just fancy giving it a go for a bit of light-hearted fun, there’s something for everyone. As always, there’ll be plenty of time for conversation, refreshments, and friendly company. We hope to see you there!
Join us on Friday 1st August for an evening of live music, featuring talented local artists, in the beautiful setting of St Peter's Church. It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable night for all ages, with refreshments and a few surprises along the way! Proceeds will support the much needed repairs to the church building.
