During the winter of 2014-5, St Mary’s volunteers continued to work hard in clearing undergrowth on the northerly tree line to the Cemetery. This has prompted several letters complimenting the ‘Friends’ on the recent improvements.
The photographs illustrate this well. The open aspect appears to have encouraged larger areas of snowdrops and crocus and there are some daffodils and bluebells to follow on. It is plain that if we fell some of the mature Sycamores in that area to make it suitable for siting graves we might extend the cemetery’s useful life by a number of years.
We must thank the relatively small group of supporters who have contributed thus far whether in financial terms or by giving their time and physical effort. On both fronts we look forward to wider commitment in the long term. Pledges for routine payments would be particularly welcome. The money is held in the Cemetery Maintenance Fund, a Church account dedicated for the purpose, which enables us to gain the advantage of Gift Aid on payments from income tax payers. Please contact Ann Roberts direct on 940 2656 if you would like to contribute towards the Fund.
Len Roberts superintends the work of grass cutting contractors whilst our St Mary’s team tackle the tidying up work, keeping weeds, brambles and undergrowth under control. Please contact Peter on 940 2497 if you would care to join our workforce. A visit can be very rewarding. On all counts, we look forward to you joining us.
